F1 Understanding Our World
Black History Week
As part of Black History Week, F1 focussed on the values of Martin Luther King Jr and his belief in ‘Peace and Harmony’. We worked together, playing ‘pass the handshake’ around the circle and coloured and cut out hand prints, sticking them together to represent unity.
Later in the week, we listened to traditional African folk tales such as ‘Handa’s Surprise’ and ‘Anansi and the Magic Pot’.
One of the parents spent some time in the session, teaching the children about African block prints. They worked together to create block print Kente patterns using paints.
At the end of the week, we learnt an African song called ‘Funga Alafia’ and practised playing a Django drum.
