Healthy Eating

Reviewing the Packed Lunch and School’s Food Policy

The children at St Mary’s have been actively involved in reviewing the school’s Food Policy and Packed Lunch Policy.

The members of the school council, which is made up of two representatives from each class, met with the school’s dietician and a school governor to look at how we can ensure that our pupils have a healthy and well balanced diet. They looked at the results of the audit and each representative went back to their class to give feedback and to discuss any ideas that the pupils had to improve this.   At St Mary’s, we feel that it is important to give our children a voice and listen to their suggestions - their opinions matter to us.

Following this, the policies were amended and the school council representatives fed back to their classes the changes that have been implemented.

Healthy Eating Assembly

To promote our school’s drive to ensure that all of our children have a healthy, well-balanced and nutritional diet, we held an assembly to find out more about healthy lifestyles.

The school’s dietician spoke to the children about the importance of eating a balanced diet and introduced them to the different food groups from the ‘Eat Well Plate’.

During the assembly, the children were able to actively participate in sorting a variety of foods into the appropriate food groups, and discussed with each other how these help us to grow strong and healthy.
