Please note that the INSET day this term is on Friday 26th October. The school will be closed on this day.
Year 6 parents/carers will receive your child’s application pack for secondary school today. Please note the deadline for submitting your application is 31st October.
Payment for school dinners will be taken by Mrs Carnell at the office on Monday mornings. We also have the facility for you to pay online – for further details please speak to Mrs Carnell.
At St Mary’s we are passionate about providing children with opportunities that enrich their educational experience. In the past we have paid in full, or subsidised these activities by at least 50% and often more. Due to shrinking budgets, we are no longer able to do this and as a result, from this academic year, there will be an increase in charges for all enrichment activities and trips. When making a payment for enrichment activities and trips, you can do so via the school office, online through the School Gateway (which can be found on our website www.stmaryshysongreen.com) or the correct amount of money can be sent in an envelope with your child, marked clearly with their name and year group.
If you need to request time off for your child during term time, you will need to write a letter providing details of dates requested and the reason for absence. Please be aware that I am only permitted to authorise absences where there are exceptional circumstances, and I am unable to authorise any absence if it takes your child’s overall absence below 95% for the full academic year. I will look at each request on a case by case basis and notify you of my decision. If I am unable to authorise your request, your child’s absence will be recorded as unauthorised and the local authority may issue you with a fine.
It is our priority for every child to attend school each day. Please support us by ensuring your child is in school on time every day ready to line up at 8.55am. The school gate will be locked each day at 9am. For more information about attendance and punctuality, please access our ‘Attendance Policy’ which is available to view on our school website. Thank you so much for your co-operation.
The children are looking very smart in their school uniforms. Please ensure your child’s name is on every item of clothing – especially ties, jumpers and cardigans – as, when they are lost, it makes finding the owner so much easier! P.E. shorts, t-shirt and PE bag can be purchased from the school office for £7. Book bags are also available for £3.50.
Please note that your child will need to come to school with their own water bottle (already filled).
I am very excited to be working with your community this year and, having spent a few days in school this past week, I can already see what a very special place St Mary's is. Your children are a credit to you - so well behaved with a real thirst for learning. I look forward to getting to know them and you better over the coming months. My role as Executive Headteacher is primarily to support Miss O'Sullivan as she takes on her new role in school, as well as to work alongside staff to ensure the very best opportunities for all your children. I am in school on Tuesdays and Thursdays this term, so please come and say hello if you see me around.
