Our end of year assessments are indeed very pleasing and the children should be congratulated for their hard work and excellent behaviour. Recent visitors have remarked on the very calm and happy atmosphere that permeates throughout the school. To reward the children we have asked class councils to discuss what end of term treats they would like and bring their ideas to their School Council.
Congratulations to the school basketball team who played with great skill and determination in the recent city heats. They finished the competition in 3rd place which has secured them a place in the finals in December.
The Athletics team did very well to take 3rd place in the city heats. They went on to the semi-finals where they finished in 6th place overall.
A Christingle Service will be held on Wednesday 18th December at 6.00pm at St. Stephen’s with St. Paul’s Church on Bobbersmill Road. Parents, carers and children are very welcome to this celebration.
Consultation on the proposed admission arrangements for the 2015/2016 for St Mary’s School is now taking place. Details on the proposals are available on our school website or Nottingham City Council on www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/schooladmission. The consultation period will begin on 2nd December 2013 and end on 31st January 2014.
Applications for a school place in the Reception class next year must be made before 15th January 2014. You must apply on both the Nottingham City Council Admission form and the Catholic Schools’ Supplementary form. Applying online is the quickest and easiest way to apply and is completely safe and secure. You will also find step-by-step instructions to help you get started. You’ll receive an email confirming that Nottingham City Admissions have received your application, giving you total peace of mind.
Please ensure your application contains the necessary evidence to support your request. Last year we had over 100 applications for the 30 places available so it is very important to have your form in on time!
Miss O’Neill is the school’s named Child Protection Designated Officer and can be contacted at any time if you have any concerns regarding children’s safety. Ms Francis and Mrs Hodgkinson (our Family Support workers) are also available for support throughout the week if you would like a chat.
Ms Francis will be working in class during the mornings but is available any Monday afternoon to meet with parents (This time is flexible).
Our reflective day on Friday 6th December will enable children and staff to reflect more deeply on the season of Advent and help us prepare for the celebration of Jesus’ birth at Christmas. The children will look at the importance of recognising Jesus as a very special visitor and how they can prepare to welcome him into their lives and their homes.
Fr. David will join us for some of our activities on this day. We welcome parents and carers to the celebration of the Eucharist at the end of this special day at 2.00pm in the school hall.
The Christmas dinner for the children/staff will be on Wednesday 18th December. If your child normally brings sandwiches and would like a Christmas dinner, please let Mrs Carnell know by Wednesday 4th December. Unfortunately, it may not be possible to have a Christmas dinner if you do not order before the deadline. Children who normally have a school dinner do not need to order.
We had a wonderful response to our weird and wacky day for the Philippines disaster fund - an amazing £292.12 was donated. Thank you for your generosity.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped out at the Parish Bazaar. The event ran very successfully and raised approximately £2000.20 for parish funds. Although most of the money is for the parish, they usually donate some of this to the school. I would especially like to thank the School Council who demonstrated wonderful entrepreneurial skills and raised the wonderful sum of £144 on their stalls. At their next meeting they will decide how they are going to spend this money. A complete list of prize winners for the various draws and raffle is now available from the school office.
