 Football Update

22/12/2015

We have come to the mid-way point in the football season for St Mary’s football team and we would like to congratulate the boys on a successful first half of the season which sees them at the top of the league at this stage. They have improved game upon game, beginning the season with a loss and a draw but ending this first part with 3 straight wins.
They are currently studying the recently published league table closely to work out what results they need and who are the teams to beat!
Mrs Caine would also like to thank the parents as their support has been fantastic, both for the team on the side-line and in supporting with travel arrangements too.

Sports Ambassadors

Once again, four children from Year 5 were selected to take part in the Sports Ambassador´s Programme. They took part in a series of workshops and training at Nottingham Trent University in order to equip them with ideas and leadership skills which they will put into practice with our younger children.  Last year´s group were so impressive, they were invited back to the conference to give a presentation to the new recruits.  The following email was received from Rebecca Mason of School Sport Nottingham after the event -

‘I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to St Mary’s HG for bringing your Yr. 6 Young Ambassadors to the conference yesterday. They delivered a brilliant presentation and shared their work with us all. Many schools were so impressed with their manifesto and laminated cards! You can really see how they have all grown in confidence over the past year and are a great asset to the school due to the support they receive from you and the other staff. ‘

City Dance Showcase

Last Wednesday a group of 13 children took part in the City Dance Showcase at the Ellis Guilford School.  This was a fantastic event where 12 different schools showcased some very impressive routines.  Our group performed very well, doing a commercial dance routine which had been choreographed by Miss Binch (our dance specialist).  At the end of the evening, it was announced they had finished in 6th place.  They will now work on their routine in order to enter The Great Big Dance Off which is a national competition.

After doing well in the first heat of the Year 5-6 Sportshall Athletics Competition, our team of 18 children went on to compete in the Semi-Finals.  Once again, they did exceptionally well and consequently secured a place in the Finals at Nottingham Trent University.  They faced some tough competition on the day but competed with true team spirit and finished the afternoon in 6th place.  This was a tremendous achievement particularly as 31 schools in total had taken part in the overall competition

We welcome Mrs Thurman back from her maternity leave. She will job share Foundation 2 class with Mrs Hayes next term. Both teachers are very experienced Foundation teachers and already have spent time with the children to ensure there is a smooth transition.  I am very grateful to Ms Hill who has lead this important stage for the past year to ensure our children have had outstanding provision. Ms Hill will continue to work in Foundation Stage 1 every Friday.

Well done to children and staff for a wonderful term. We are very proud of the excellent work and outstanding behaviour shown by the children over this busy time of year. They are especially to be congratulated on the high standard of all the Christmas celebrations. They enjoyed their pantomime production today – a well-deserved treat. Thank you for your generous donation of £356.26 collected after all these performances. This will provide many hot dinners for the people who visit the soup kitchen at St Paul’s every day.

The Christmas dinner for the children and staff will be on Wednesday 16th December.

If your child normally brings sandwiches and would like a Christmas dinner, please let Mrs Carnell know by Wednesday 9th December.

Unfortunately, it may not be possible to have a Christmas dinner if you do not order before the deadline. Children who normally have a school dinner do not need to order.

Applying online is the quickest and easiest way to apply and is completely safe and secure. You will also find step-by-step instructions to help you get started on www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/e-admissions.

You will receive an email confirming that Nottingham City Admissions have received your application, giving you total peace of mind.

Proposed Changes to Control Parking

4/12/2015

We have been informed by the Nottingham City Council that they are proposing a number of measures to control parking around the local schools. This will involve the introduction of double yellow lines, ‘No Waiting’ signage and the extension of the existing `School Keep Clear` markings.  A full list of proposals and drawings are on our website. They welcome any comments or objections to these proposals.
