Football Season 2016-17

23/6/2017

The boys in the school football team have now played their final game of the season and maintained their fantastic winning spree! Over the course of the season, they've played 10 games and dropped only 2 points, with an amazing 9 wins and 1 draw!

Their final game was a hard fought battle with Bentinck, the only team to take points from them all season, but the boys didn't take long to settle into their stride and come from behind to go on to win the game 3-1, hitting the post on at least two other occasions in the game.

They have demonstrated excellent teamwork throughout the season and their hard work has paid off as they are confirmed as league champions with this final result! Well done boys!

We have recently received the fantastic news that the school football team, after a season totalling 6 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss, are joint winners of the league. This is a fantastic reward for all their hard work and great teamwork throughout the year.  It means that St Mary’s have now been crowned league champions three seasons in a row!
Their medals were presented in assembly alongside a plaque which will be kept in school. Well done to those who have represented St Mary’s this year: Vincenzo (captain) Bob (vice-captain) Kamil, Hamish, Michal, Rio, Jahmi, Mossimo, Antwaan and Abdullah.

The Year 5/6 football team have now played all their league matches and are awaiting news of their final league position. After losing their opening league game of the season, they went from strength to strength as they became used to playing together and were unbeaten for the remaining 9 games of the season, winning 6 and drawing 3. They have played well as a team and represented the school with good sporting attitudes. The team is made up of about half year 5 and half year 6 children so, with many of the children still eligible to play next year, we look set for an exciting season in 2016-17! We would like to thank the parents as we have had some of the best parental support this year.

We have come to the mid-way point in the football season for St Mary’s football team and we would like to congratulate the boys on a successful first half of the season which sees them at the top of the league at this stage. They have improved game upon game, beginning the season with a loss and a draw but ending this first part with 3 straight wins.
They are currently studying the recently published league table closely to work out what results they need and who are the teams to beat!
Mrs Caine would also like to thank the parents as their support has been fantastic, both for the team on the side-line and in supporting with travel arrangements too.

Festival of Football

Festival of Football

On Monday, 7th July Year 6 took part in a Festival of Football with nine other city schools at the Powerleague, Nottingham.  Children from all the schools were mixed up to make teams of 6, where they competed in a 6-a-side tournament. This meant everyone was playing in teams with new ‘friends’ and the trophy would be won by children from different schools.  Everyone had a fantastic day!

Lots of the children came back to school with medals and felt very proud.  Well done Naomi for being part of the winning team!

It is official! Our football team is top of their league after another very successful season. They have played twelve games, winning eight of them, drawing one and losing only three. Mrs Caine and Miss Banks are extremely proud of the team, especially for their effort and teamwork against some very tough opponents. They have been fair, well-mannered and excellent ambassadors for the school. Unfortunately, Haneen Y6 was not here for the team photo below so we want to give her a special mention as she was our only girl!
