Thank you to all our parents and carers who signed the objection petition regarding the proposed residents’ parking scheme. I would also like to thank those who wrote to the council directly with their own objections. Sadly, if this scheme is successful it will have huge implications for our parents and carers who travel to school by car but also for our children who receive support from outside agencies. The community at Scothome Primary School, Fr. David and the parishioners of St Mary’s contributed greatly to the objection. I will keep you posted once I hear anything more.
I have received the attached letter from Traffic and Safety Development at Nottingham City Council. Local residents have contacted their councillors with concerns about parking. The council have proposed a residents’ permit parking scheme between 8am and 6pm and have planned a small number of shared use bays. Unfortunately, from the plan, it only seems to provide our parents and Scotholme parents with about 14 spaces for the drop off and pick up times. This concerns me greatly. I have spoken to the Headteacher at Scotholme Primary School and we will be writing letters to object to this proposal. As this will have a negative impact on the majority of our parents, I would appreciate if you could take some time out to write a letter detailing your concerns.
We have been informed by the Nottingham City Council that they are proposing a number of measures to control parking around the local schools. This will involve the introduction of double yellow lines, ‘No Waiting’ signage and the extension of the existing `School Keep Clear` markings. A full list of proposals and drawings are on our website. They welcome any comments or objections to these proposals.
This week, on Cardwell Street, a little boy from our nursery was knocked over by a passing car. Thankfully, he escaped with minor injuries. Thank you for those who expressed concerns.
The parking of cars around the school did have impact negatively on this incident. I ask those of you who drive to school to park considerately during drop off and pick up times at the school.
I would like to remind you that parking on double yellow lines or school zigzags causes an unnecessary hazard that ultimately is a risk to the safety of the children.
Please support us by adhering to some simple rules:
• Please slow down and be extra vigilant when driving near school.
• Where possible, park further away and walk the remaining distance.
• Do not park your vehicle or wait in restricted areas.
