After qualifying in the East Midlands Regional Heats of the Great Big Dance Off, our KS2 dance team travelled to Oxford on Monday for the National Finals. Despite the heat and a very long day, the dancers were an absolute joy to be with. They put on a fantastic performance and we are now proud to say that the St Mary’s dance group are 20th in the whole of the country for their efforts. What a fantastic achievement! Well done to Cormac, Roma, Eve, Maddie, Kady, Tatiana, Emmanuela, Vicky, Honey, Mercia, Nattalia, Zeze and Aishat.
The boys in the school football team have now played their final game of the season and maintained their fantastic winning spree! Over the course of the season, they've played 10 games and dropped only 2 points, with an amazing 9 wins and 1 draw!
Their final game was a hard fought battle with Bentinck, the only team to take points from them all season, but the boys didn't take long to settle into their stride and come from behind to go on to win the game 3-1, hitting the post on at least two other occasions in the game.
They have demonstrated excellent teamwork throughout the season and their hard work has paid off as they are confirmed as league champions with this final result! Well done boys!
At the midway point in the season, we have received an update of our league and can confirm that after 6 games, St. Mary's are currently top of the league!
They have won 5 games and drawn 1 and have shown fantastic teamwork and commitment throughout the season so far. Well done boys!
Once again, four children from Year 5 were selected to take part in the Sports Ambassador’s Programme. The first part of their training was a day at Nottingham Trent University where the annual conference is held. They took part in a series of workshops and training in order to equip them with ideas and leadership skills. They will now put these skills into practice with our younger children during lunch times, fulfilling tasks that were set for them at the conference.
We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded the Sainsbury’s School Games Gold Award which is the government recognised kitemark for excellence in PE and competitive school sport. Out of 33 schools in Nottingham who achieved the award, St Mary’s was one of only five schools that achieved the Gold Mark.
‘This is a tremendous achievement by our schools and is a reflection of the outstanding provision and participation in PE and school sport that is on offer to young people in Nottingham’. (Nick Robb – School Sport Nottingham)
Thank you to Mrs North for her continued hard work and commitment in achieving this wonderful award.
Having taken part in the national ‘Road to Rio’ challenge, we were delighted to be awarded a trophy and a sports voucher for £200 at the Sports Ambassador’s award ceremony.
We are now proud to say we have been added to the Get Set’s ‘Hall of Fame’ after officially covering the distance on our virtual journey to Rio.
As a consequence of all our hard work, St Mary’s was also invited as one of only ten schools in the country, to take part in a Google Hangout. Children in Year 4 devised a set of questions for a Team GB athlete and a nutritionist. The Hangout has been recorded and we will receive the link at the end of term.
Mrs North is to be congratulated for all her hard work in providing outstanding sporting opportunities to the children over the year. Please take a look at the school website, www.stmaryshysongreen.com, for more details.

We have recently received the fantastic news that the school football team, after a season totalling 6 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss, are joint winners of the league. This is a fantastic reward for all their hard work and great teamwork throughout the year. It means that St Mary’s have now been crowned league champions three seasons in a row!
Their medals were presented in assembly alongside a plaque which will be kept in school. Well done to those who have represented St Mary’s this year: Vincenzo (captain) Bob (vice-captain) Kamil, Hamish, Michal, Rio, Jahmi, Mossimo, Antwaan and Abdullah.
The Year 5/6 football team have now played all their league matches and are awaiting news of their final league position. After losing their opening league game of the season, they went from strength to strength as they became used to playing together and were unbeaten for the remaining 9 games of the season, winning 6 and drawing 3. They have played well as a team and represented the school with good sporting attitudes. The team is made up of about half year 5 and half year 6 children so, with many of the children still eligible to play next year, we look set for an exciting season in 2016-17! We would like to thank the parents as we have had some of the best parental support this year.
The Nottingham Ice Arena is offering discounted ice skating tickets for adults and children who have a Beat the Street card or fob. The discounted price is £3.50 (instead of £8.50) and will be offered until the 8th of June.
