National Funding for Primary School PE and Sport
We pride ourselves on the existing provision of PE and sport at St Mary’s and our vision to continue the Olympic Legacy. Our aim is to ensure our pupils have a varied PE curriculum and a good selection of after school sporting opportunities.

Coaching
Dance
We employed a dance specialist to plan and deliver lessons across both key stages. Staff attended lessons for their own professional development.
Gymnastics
We employed a gymnastics coach to plan and deliver lessons across both key stages.
All children benefited from high quality coaching. Staff were included for their own professional development.
Ice Skating
Year 4 children completed a six week programme of ice skating at the National Ice Arena.
Two children were talent identified and awarded a series of free skating lessons.
Urban Hockey
Years 5 and 6 benefited from six weeks of urban hockey provided by a coach from the National Ice Arena.
25 children from Years 3 and 4 enjoyed after school sessions of urban hockey with a coach from the National Ice Arena.
Table Tennis
15 children from Years 5 and 6 took part in an after school table tennis club which was run by an outside coach.
4 children went on to compete in the City Table Tennis tournament at Nottingham Trent University where they finished in 6th place.
Climbing
This year, we used a significant amount of the funding on climbing sessions at Nottingham Climbing Centre which has been a huge success.
All children in KS2 had the opportunity to take part in sessions, including Year 2. We hope they will now go on to work on their Level 1 climbing award.
Lunchtime Club
A lunchtime play worker was employed throughout the year to deliver lunchtime activities for children in KS1 and KS2. As a consequence, children were more active and happy to learn new games that they employed themselves at break times.
Equipment
A range of playground equipment was purchased in order to maximise physical activity at break and lunchtimes. In KS2, a greater number of children took part in physical activity at break times and lunchtimes. This also enabled our Play Leaders and Sports Ambassadors to fulfil their roles more successfully.
PE resources were also updated for improved delivery of PE lessons.
Transport
Participation in sporting competitions was high as we were able to provide transport to and from many events. This year we competed in:

Dance

- All children in KS1 and KS2 took part in street dance sessions for a half term block.
- 22 children in Years 3 and 4 enjoyed an after school Zumba club.
- 20 children in Years 3 and 4 enjoyed and after school Street Dance club
- 21 children in Years 5 and 6 took part in an after school Street Dance Club.
- 12 children were identified as talented dancers and were invited to take part in training for the City Dance Showcase and the Great Big Dance Off (national competition).
- Our dance group competed in the Great Big Dance Off (national competition)and performed at The Albert Hall in Nottingham.

Coaching
Dance
We employed a dance specialist to plan and deliver lessons across both key stages. Staff attended lessons for their own professional development.
- All children in KS1 and KS2 took part in dance sessions for a half term block.
- 21 children in Years 3 and 4 enjoyed an after school Cheerleading club.
- 16 children in Years 1 and 2 enjoyed an after school Dance club
- 13 children were identified as talented dancers and were invited to take part in training for the City Dance Showcase and the Great Big Dance Off (national competition).
- Our dance group finished in 1st place in the City Showcase and 4th in the regional heats of the GBDO.
- The group then qualified for the National Finals in Birmingham where they finished 20th overall.

We paid for outside coaches to deliver Urban Hockey, Dance, Athletics Fitness, Girls’ Football, Netball, Table Tennis and Tag Rugby
- 15 children from Years 3 and 4 enjoyed after school sessions of Urban Hockey
- 12 children in Year 6 took part in Table Tennis
- 14 children in Y5/6 took part in Netball

Table Tennis
- We have purchased two indoor table tennis tables which are now available all year round to all pupils. Children in Breakfast Club also have access to the tables.. This will have significant impact at break times and will serve to raise the profile of table tennis within school.
- We have a specialist coach in delivering an after school club for 10 children in Year 6.

- The installation of football posts on the infant playground has had great impact on breaktimes for children in KS1 and will continue to benefit children for years to come.
- We have purchased an outdoor table tennis table which will be available all year round to all pupils in KS2. This will have significant impact at break times and will serve to raise the profile of table tennis within school.

PE and School Sport Specialist (PESSS)
• Staff supported Miss Gubas in her lessons and used these sessions to develop skills for their own continuing professional development.
• Children in F1 were introduced to the Real PE scheme of work and had one session per week over the year.
• All children in F2 and Key Stage 1 continued their sessions of the Real PE scheme.
• Children benefited from a number of after school clubs.
• A group of play leaders were trained up and were engaging younger children in physical activity at break times.
• All children in F2 and KS1 have been able to take part in organised physical activity at break times.
Alternative Sporting Opportunities
Street Dance
• Children in Years 5 and 6 enjoyed 12 sessions of street dance in curriculum time.
• Children in Years 3 and 4 had a half term of dance with a superhero theme in curriculum time.
• 14 children from Years 5 and 6 were selected to take part in The Great Big Dance off which involved coaching sessions after school in preparation for the final performance at The Albert Hall.

• Years 4 and 6 enjoyed 6 weeks of mini squash in school with inflatable squash walls.
• A group went on to play in a mini squash competition at Nottingham Rackets Club where they came 2nd.

• A number of children have taken part in competitions including netball, basketball, hockey, athletics, rounders and street dance.

PE and School Sport Specialist (PESSS)
- Staff supported Miss Gubas in her lessons and used these sessions to develop skills for their own continuing professional development.
- All children were introduced to the Real PE scheme of work and all year groups were assessed using the relative model.
- Children benefited from a number of after school clubs including cricket, netball, basketball, outdoor and adventurous and climbing.
- A group of play leaders were trained up and were engaging younger children in physical activity at break times.
CPD – Subject Leader Support Package
- Mrs North attended her 3 days training on the Real PE scheme of work and began implementing the scheme.
- Use was made of the Youth Sport Trust membership and ½ day seminar. Mrs North evaluated PE in school and provided data to highlight after school participation and devise an action plan for areas to be developed.
- The school has been awarded the Youth Sport Trust Gold Award for its excellent provision of PE and school sport.
Alternative Sporting Opportunities
- Children in Years 5 and 6 enjoyed 12 sessions of after school fencing which finished with a competition in school.
- Years 3, 4 and 5 were offered after school cheerleading sessions which they thoroughly enjoyed.
- Zumba sessions for Years 3 and 5 in curriculum time were very successful.
- Year 6 enjoyed 6 weeks of mini squash in school with inflatable squash walls. A group went on to play in a mini squash competition where they came 1st.
- The outdoor and adventurous after school club ended with 2 hours at the climbing centre, which all the children were very excited about.
Transport
- Year 5 had 6 weeks of specialised gymnastics coaching at the Rushcliffe Leisure Centre in preparation for the competition at the London Copper Box. Funding was provided for the coaching so we provided transport.
