Y2 Art

Portraits

This term Year 2 have been drawing portraits in their Art lessons. They began by drawing themselves and then moved onto drawing their friends with different expressions. They have also drawn pictures of Florence Nightingale as part of our History work and looked at the work of Picasso and attempted some abstract portraits

Primary Colours

In Art, the Year 1 children have been exploring the three primary colours.  We used our hands to do some paint mixing to discover what colours we could make.

‘It was fun getting our hands mess and finding out what colours we would make.’ – Umer

‘I found out that when you mix red and blue it makes purple!’ - Bethany

Our F2 Work

Inspired by the work of Klimt’s ‘Tree of Life.’

Fossils

We looked very closely at fossils and made some out of salt dough, play dough and art materials.

In F2, we take full advantage of the natural imagination, curiosity and creativity of our children. We have guided sessions to teach specific skills but also give lots of time and opportunity for children to initiate and develop their own interests, both indoor and outdoor.

This area of learning is split into two strands.

Exploring and using media and materials
By the end of the year, children sing songs, make music and dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

Being imaginative
By the end of the year, children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

‘Space’
We have had great fun this term, pretending to be astronauts going into space.  We sang the solar system rap, created our own aliens and built rockets out of boxes.
We know how to mix our own paint and have created beautiful transient art. We used all different types of materials to create pictures and then had to photograph them by ourselves.

‘Whose egg is this?'
On Tuesday, 23rd of February, a mysterious egg arrived in F2. We did not know who it belonged to so we cracked the egg open and were amazed to find a small dinosaur and a fossil inside.  We have been finding out lots of information about dinosaurs and have been learning a dinosaur dance.
