Y2  Enrichment

Our Y1 Work

Rainforest Creatures

On Monday April 26th, Dean, the Ranger, brought lots of creatures from the Rainforest to meet Year 1 and Year 2. This was to enrich our current Geography topic, ‘Walking Through the Rainforest.’ It proved to be a very exciting and educational morning and the children were very brave when touching and handling all the animals.

Carnival Day

On Friday June 15th, Key Stage 1 celebrated Carnival Day.

This was to enrich our topic about Brazil and the Rainforest in geography. The children wore bright colours and completed a variety of carnival art, cooking and dance.

It was a fantastic day of celebration, which culminated in an energetic and exciting parade around school, where the children were able to share their new talents and creations with the younger and older peers.

Fire Service Visit

Let It Snow

Great Fire of London

On Monday 29th January, Year 1 took part in a Partake Theatre group production about the Great Fire of London.  We all got to dress up as people from 1666 and act out the events of the fire.  We learnt that the fire began in a bakery on Pudding Lane and we used ribbons to represent the fire getting bigger and bigger.  The baker’s name was Tom Farriner and he had left his oven on overnight.  Lots of people passed buckets of water from the Thames in an attempt to put out the fire.

Exploring

Exploring

In Year 1, we are all really enjoying the exploring areas.  We have been creating wonderful artwork on the workstation and in our autumn small world, writing in the writing corner, role playing in our beach and building in the construction area and on the water wall.

‘I love building in the construction area. I built a really tall tower.’ – Caleb

‘I can practice writing my words in the writing area and write letters for my family.’ – Bethany

‘It is so much getting to paint and draw on the art table. I make so much art to bring home.’ - Just

Black History

During the week beginning October 9th, the whole school focused and celebrated black history.

To kick-start the week we were joined by a historian – Dr Jake Hodder- who introduced the week’s focus through an engaging and interactive assembly. He taught us about an inspirational black person; Marcus Garvey.

Jane Partow; an artist; also joined us on Tuesday 10th October. Jane helped us to deepen our understanding of the black race and culture through art workshops. The children worked carefully with Jane to produce a range of beautiful African art.

‘I loved doing the African art because it was really colourful.’ – Martha

‘I think it was really unfair how they were treated. We should all be equal.’ - Azari

Year 1 and Year 2 Trip to Skegness 2017

Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic day at Skegness beach!  We learnt lots about the seaside and were able to compare it to our local area.  While in Skegness, we played in the sand, paddled in the freezing waves and took a walk around the key sites such as the pier and the fair.
‘It was the best day ever.’ – Jan

‘The waves were so cold and fun!’ – Lily

‘I liked digging holes in the sand.’ - Azari

Neville the Hedgehog

Neville, the African hedgehog, came to visit F2.  Katie, his owner, told us lots of interesting facts about him.  Afterwards, we enjoyed making a home for him in our outside classroom to keep him warm.

RSPB

On the 25th January, we had a visit from the RSPB as part of the Early Bird watch.  We looked for birds in the sky, trying to identify different species, and put some bird feed out to attract birds to our outdoor areas.

Visitors to F2

We have been very busy over the last few weeks and have had lots of visitors to our class.

Father David came and showed us how to baptise a baby.  We remembered that we baptise children to welcome them into God’s family.

The F2 children from Scotholme Primary School came to visit and watch the ‘Rhyme and Rocket’ show.  It was really funny and we made enough rhymes to send the visitors back to Planet Rhyme.
Some eggs arrived in school but we did not know what would hatch out of them. We were amazed to see chicks hatching out!  We held them and they felt very soft.

Black History Week  in F2

Picture

This week, we celebrated Black History in school.

Stickman came to visit and Azari was very brave and sang a Bob Marley song in front of everyone in the hall.  F2 were very proud of him.

We also did some African singing and drumming in class.

We read some stories from Jamaica and loved Anancy and Mr Dry Bone.
