Y2- Lent Term 2020

“Walk Hand in Hand with God”

Dear Parents/Carers,
Happy New Year to everyone!
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a lovely Christmas.

You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term on the curriculum web page. These are the areas that Year 2 will be studying this term. Our Catholic Life is central to all we do at St Mary’s and we place great emphasis on our values: Kindness, Responsibility, Respect, Commitment, Appreciation, Honesty and Resilience, and our Mission statement is linked to all our curriculum areas.

This year is an important one for your children as they will be sitting their SATs in May and we therefore have a lot of preparation to do. It is essential that they are reading every single evening and that they are practising their times tables and spellings. It is important that you continue to listen to your child read as often as possible and record this in their organisers. We will reward children who read at home daily, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.

As well as reading with your child, please encourage them to practise times tables for 5 minutes each day. They should be working on 10s, 2s, 5s and 3s this term. Spellings will be given out weekly and are usually tested on Fridays.

Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday.

P.E. will take place every Friday and P.E. kits should be kept in school until half term. Please ensure your child is not wearing earrings or any other item of jewellery on Friday each week.

If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.

Thank you for your support,

The Year 2 Team.

Year 2 Advent Term 2019

Welcome to Year 2!
We have put together some information that you may find useful as you support your child this year.

Year 2 Topics
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term under our curriculum page. These are the areas that Year 2 will be studying this term. Where appropriate, subjects will be linked to our Geography topic. There will also be a cross-curricular emphasis throughout school on the children understanding and demonstrating our school values as part of the Character Curriculum. We want to encourage the children to develop these important values: Kindness, Responsibility, Respect, Commitment, Appreciation, Honesty and Resilience. This will obviously bedone at an appropriate level and using suitable vocabulary for the age of the children.

Children’s TargetsThe children’s reading, writing and maths targets will be handed to you at our Parents’ Evening. They will be working towards these targets in class. You can also use these targets as a guide when supporting your child’s learning at home.
Homework
It is essential that your child is reading every single evening and that they are practising their times tables and spellings. It is important that you continue to listen to your child read as often as possible and record this in their reading diaries. We will reward children who read at home at least three times a week, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.
As well as reading with your child, please encourage them to practise times tables for 5 minutes each day. They should be working on 10’s, 2’s and 5’s this term. Spellings will be given out weekly and usually tested on Fridays.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday.

Important Additional Information
Trip: There will a trip to Skegness for all children in Year 1 and Year 2 on Thursday September 12th. This will be used to enrich our Geography and Literacy work this term. You should have received a separate letter with more information about the trip at the end of last term and the money for this should be paid online or at the office as soon as possible.
PE: This term PE will take place on Friday afternoons. For the first half term it will be dance sessions with Mrs Bee.. The children must wear the correct PE kit (white t-shirt, navy shorts, sensible plimsolls/trainers and no jewellery.) Children should have brought their PE kit in on the first day of term and will need to leave it in school until the last day of half term.
Water Bottles: Please note that your child will need to come to school with their own water bottle each day (already filled).

Year 2 - Summer 2019

Dear Parents/Carers,

We hope that you had a wonderful Easter break.  The children have made a great start back and are working well.  We are looking forward to an exciting summer term with them. This is a very important term for the children as they will be undertaking their end of Key Stage 1 SATs assessments. The SATs test papers will be undertaken in the week beginning May 13th so please ensure your child is not away at this time. It is vital that you continue to listen to your child read as often as possible and record this in their organisers. We will reward children who read at home daily, so signing your child's organiser helps to make sure they get the recognition they deserve.

As well as reading with your child, please encourage them to practise times tables for 5 minutes each day. They should be working on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s this term. Spellings will be given out weekly and tested on Fridays. Homework will be given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Thursday.

Swimming will take place every Tuesday afternoon and children will need a swimming costume or trunks and a towel. Hats can also be worn. Please ensure your child is not wearing earrings or any other item of jewellery on a Tuesday each week.

Please ensure that children are sent to school with a bottle of water every day as they need to be drinking throughout the day. As the weather begins to improve, we advise you to send your child to school with a sun hat and sun cream (with their name on). Please apply sun cream on exposed skin before school each morning as children are out for a long time at break and lunch time.

If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Carberry, Ms O’Neill and Mrs Deane.
