Baptism Re-Enactment in Church
On Tuesday October 23rd, Years 1 and 2 visited St Mary’s Church to learn about the Sacrament of Baptism from Father David. Children were chosen to play the parts of the parents and Godparents and Father David led the children in a re-enactment of the ceremony.
They learnt lots of extra information about the signs and symbols involved, which will help them in their new Come and See topic.
Once back at school, Year 2 wrote all about what they had learned from Father David.

Special Meals
The children in Year 1 were able to show off and celebrate their learning about special meals in their class assembly. They told the story of the Last Supper, beautifully danced and read some reflective prayers. The children and parents thoroughly enjoyed watching the Year 1 children perform and we are all very proud!
Special People
On Monday 22nd January, Year 1 were very lucky to have a visit from Frances to celebrate our RE topic; special people. The children started our retreat by thinking about the people who are special to them. They then thought about the special people and jobs in the church. Each chid created a special person which they added to our church picture. Later, the children re-enacted a Mass and all had a special job to complete. Overall, the children had a very reflective morning and learnt a lot about the different jobs in the church.
As part of the topic the children have also had visits from people within the church that have a special job. They have been able to find out more and ask questions to Father David, a Eucharistic Minister and some altar servers.

“I would like to be an altar server when I am older so that I can help the priest.” – Lily
“I think that everyone in the church is very special!” – Samuel
“I really enjoyed acting in the mass and it helped me understand the different jobs.” - Jenson
World Prayer Day
On October 18th the whole school joined in with prayers being said by children all over the world to promote peace. We had a very special assembly at 9am and prayed a decade of the Rosary together to pray for peace and unity throughout the world.
Baptism Ceremony
On Tuesday October 31st, Key Stage 1 and Year 3 had a trip to St Mary’s Church to take part in the re-enactment of a Baptism ceremony with Father David.
All year groups are studying Baptism as part of their Come and See RE topics. Watching and taking part in the ceremony helps to bring the Sacrament to life for the children.

Sacrament of Baptism
As part of the Come and See topic ‘Belonging’, the children in Year 1 have been learning about the important Sacrament of Baptism. We have focused on the symbol of water and how it symbolises the washing away of sins. As part of a liturgy, the children all completed a sorry message on a heart shape and placed this in a bowl of water. As we listened to music and reflected about our messages, we saw them slowly disappear and disperse into the water. This showed us that, when we say sorry to God, we will be forgiven.
Families
On Monday 2nd October, Year 1 was very lucky to celebrate a retreat afternoon with Frances. During the retreat, we focused on our RE topic ‘Families’. We talked about our own families, what we do with them and how we show them love. As a class, we discussed how we all belong to lots of different families: our school, church and God’s family. We also learnt more about Jesus and listened to stories of Him with his family. We went into groups and role-played these different stories, each taking the part of someone special to Jesus. Later, we had a go at drawing these stories. Finally, we finished our retreat with a liturgy, reflecting on what makes our family special and how lucky we are. We wrote messages to our families and took them home to share.
Our F2 Work
Reflection day in F2
We marked the beginning of Lent by celebrating a reflection day on Ash Wednesday. We made a Lenten garden for our prayer table and we each made a Lenten promise to help us understand the true meaning of Easter. Mrs Carberry came into our class and placed ash on our foreheads. We had a lovely day reflecting on this special time of year.
On the 16th January, we had our retreat day with Frances. We talked about ways we can celebrate with our families. We also found out about our parish family and who helps us to celebrate God. The next day, we visited church and we looked at the font, the lectern, the altar and the crucifix. We sat on the pew as part of the congregation in the parish family. We were very well behaved and respectful.
On 31st January, we went to church with Year 3 for our first Mass. We sat very quietly and listened to Father David.

10th October 2016 - Visit From Francis
This week, we have had a visit from Francis, who worked with us all morning to fill God’s house with all the people He loves.
Our next topic is all about Baptism. We have invited Father David in to school to tell us about Baptism. He has promised to show us how he baptises babies in church. The children will be asked to bring in photos of when they were baptised.
