Our Y2 Work

Brazilian Carnival Art Day

On Wednesday June 13th Mrs Partow joined us and we had an amazing morning creating face masks and head dresses to wear on our Carnival Day!

Black History Week in Year 2

During Black History Week Year 2 have studied the lives of famous black people who have made a difference to our lives. We began the week with a whole school assembly about Marcus Garvey and then, in the classroom, we looked at Nelson Mandela and Rosa Parks. For each of these inspirational people the children produced a fact file of important events in their lives. We thought about the impact they have made on us. Year 2 also looked at the work of Jamaican artist, Bernard Hoyes, and the children made their own version of his painting ‘Dancing Lady’.

Our Y1 Work

The Primary colours

In Art, Year 1 has been exploring the three primary colours.  We used our hands to do some paint mixing to discover what colours we could make.

‘It was fun getting our hands messy.’ – Grace

‘I could guess what colours might be made.’ – Ebu

Autumn

The children in Year 1 have been exploring the season of autumn.  As part of this topic, we all painted our own autumn leaves.  We thought carefully about what colours were needed and even learnt about warm and cold colours.  To paint their leaves, the children had to mix the powder paints and use their understanding of primary colours.

‘Warm colours are like autumn colours’ – Francesca
