Year 3  Enrichment Activities

Our Y2 Work

Brazilian Carnival Day

On Friday June 15th, we began our Carnival Day by cooking some typical Brazilian treats: Pao de Queijo (Cheese bread), Brigadeiros (chocolate truffles) and Abacaxi com Hortela (pineapple and mint smoothies).

The children all had a go at chopping, stirring, beating, shaping, pouring and decorating. Then of course…eating and drinking!
After we had eaten the treats we made musical shakers ready for our afternoon Carnival Parade.

In the afternoon we practised our Samba dancing with Mrs Bee.

Finally, we had a Brazilian Carnival Parade all around the school!

Meet the Creatures

On Monday April 26th, Dean, the Ranger, brought lots of creatures from the Rainforest to meet Year 1 and Year 2. This was to enrich our current Geography topic, ‘Walking Through the Rainforest.’ It proved to be a very exciting and educational morning and the children were very brave when touching and handling all the animals.

Fire Service Visit

Class Assembly- Hinduism

On Friday October 20th, Year 2 shared all their work on Hinduism and Diwali with the rest of the school. The children worked so hard and performed beautifully for the other children and their parents. Every child had someone there to watch them and we would like to thank the parents for their fantastic support.

Year 1 and Year 2 Trip to Skegness 2017

On Friday September 22nd, Years 1 and 2 went on a day trip to Skegness to enrich this term’s Geography topic. It was a brilliant day and the children had a fantastic time in the sunshine. They had a picnic on the beach, paddled in the sea, played in the sand and collected shells and pebbles, walked on the prom and pier, ate huge ice creams, then explored the sights and sounds of the town of Skegness. All their experiences on the day will be used to compare with the human and physical features we see every day in Nottingham.

Our Y1 Work

Exploring

The children in Year 1 have been really enjoying using the exploring areas to develop creative, communication and independence skills. We have been performing and acting on the stage and in our Victorian school, thinking carefully about our designs on the water wall and in the construction area and improving our physical ability on the obstacle course.

Equal Rights

On Monday 10th October, Year 1 explored the topic of equal rights with the artist ‘Stickman’. We looked carefully at the things that we were lucky to be born with and discussed how this might not be the case in the past or in other countries around the world. The children then created 2 poems together to show what things are important to them.

‘I loved doing the actions with the poem.’ – Hollie

‘I remember lots of important black people like Bob Marley.’ – Ebubu

Exploring

In Year 1, we are all really enjoying the exploring areas.  We have been making and decorating gingerbread men on the workstation, writing in the writing corner, role playing in our fire station and building in the construction area and on the water wall.
‘It is great fun watching the water travel along the water wall.’ – Isaac

‘I love getting to be a fireman and wearing the different uniform.’ – Maciej

‘The best thing is making things on the workstation!’ – Grace
