Our Year 2 Work
Maths Investigation
Today the children were given a challenge to talk about in pairs and complete practically before writing their answers on a sheet. They then repeated the challenge to see if they could improve any of their answers at the second attempt.
So far in the autumn term we have been concentrating on place value in our Maths lessons. We have been working with apparatus like the Dienes rods and place value counters to support our understanding of the value of each digit in two digit numbers.
Our Y1 Work
Clocks
In maths, we have been learning to tell the time! We have focused on using o’clock and half past. All the children were fantastic and were able to read the different times and put the correct hands on the empty clocks. Here are some of us using the small clocks to show our new learning.
Learning Outside
On Thursday November 3rd, Year 1 took maths learning outside.
Throughout the week, the children had been learning different positional and directional language. They then had to direct others or follow instructions around an obstacle course so they could apply their new vocabulary. The children were fantastic at directing their partners using up, over, left, right … and even created their own obstacles to complete. |

Addition and Subtraction Problems
The children in Year 1 have been working very hard in their maths lessons. We have now moved on from our place value topic and have begun to complete addition and subtraction problems. To help us solve different problems, we have been using bar models.

Place Value
In maths, Year 1 has been exploring place value in a range of fun and practical ways. We have looked at number value, one less than and one greater than, number lines and lots of other targets to improve our mathematical fluency.
