Our Y3 Work

Year 3 Lent Reflection Day – Ash Wednesday 2017

This important day gave us an opportunity to attend Mass and receive the Ashes. Afterwards we thought carefully about how we live our daily lives as Christians through prayer and thinking about the needs of others.

We focused one session on ‘The Beatitudes’ where Jesus calls all people to a new way of living. We looked at a simplified version of these that you can see here. We worked in small groups enacting examples of how each Beatitide could look in our everyday lives. A freezeframe was created of each and photographed. Try matching each freeze frame to a Beatitiude.

The day ended with a reflection time and each child contributed a prayer, to create a chain of prayers thinking about other people, for us to read every day throughout Lent.

Retreat Afternoon – Topic - Journeys January 2017

What a wonderful afternoon we enjoyed as part of our topic about journeys. We experienced a prayer journey around the classroom finding 5 different ways to pray. It left the whole class feeling very peaceful and calm.

Advent Reflection Day

We had a lovely, calm day where we discussed the meaning of Advent and the Advent tradition of the Jesse tree.  We made a beautiful Advent wreath and decorations for our very own class Jesse tree. Everyone made a lovely candle and wrote a prayer on it as well as decorating a beautiful gift box with words to share. The day ended with a whole school gathering and reflection.

Baptism

Thank you to Father David for helping us all to learn more about Baptism. What better way than to experience it!

19th September

Today, Year 3 has been on retreat.  The children have been thinking about their homes and how people help them to be good and kind and like Jesus.  We looked at people that inspire us, like mother Teresa and bible passages that help us too.

Our Year 2 Work...

Retreat Day – Rules

On June 6th, Frances led a retreat afternoon about the importance of rules and what would happen if we had none.  During the first part of the session, the children watched a story based on the book ‘Guess How Much I Love You’.

They then linked this story to the way that Jesus always forgives us because He loves us all. In table groups, the children created their own drama about doing something wrong and then saying sorry. For the final part of the session, the children wrote down some of the things they wanted to say sorry for, and watched them being washed away during a simple service of Reconciliation.

Holy Week – March 2016

On Monday, the Year 1 and 2 children enacted Palm Sunday for our whole school assembly.  On Tuesday, all the children went to Mass at St Mary’s Church.  On Wednesday, Year 3 children enacted The Last Supper.  On Thursday, all the children went to St Mary’s to learn about the Stations of the Cross.  The children in years 5 and 6 enacted the events of Good Friday.

Day of Mercy

On Friday 4th March, we held a Day of Mercy throughout the school. Father David began the day by leading an assembly about the Prodigal Son and explained to the children about Mercy and Forgiveness.  He heard the Confessions of the Key Stage 2 children who wished to come and see him in the Prayer Room.  After this, each class carried out their own related activities for the rest of the day.

In Year 2, we wrote sorry prayers and then floated them in bowls of water.  The water washed away the writing on the paper and the children understood that this signified our sins being washed away by God.

Advent Reflection Day

Monday 30th November was our Advent Reflection Day in school.

We had a lovely, calm and reflective day, praying, creating art work on an Advent theme, making our class Advent Wreath and completing work about the symbolism and meanings behind the parts of the wreath.

At the end of the day, the whole school came back together to share our work, our thoughts and our prayers.

Hinduism Assembly

The week beginning November 9th was Other Faiths week in school.  This term, we were all learning about Hinduism, as it was the week of Diwali celebrations.

Year 2 spent the week learning about the Hindu faith and particularly how and why Hindus celebrate Diwali. They brought all their hard work together in an assembly to showcase their art, dancing, singing and acting.  The assembly was received very positively by the large audience of parents and carers.

On Tuesday October 13th, Key Stage 1 and Foundation 2 had a trip over to Church to take part in the re-enactment of a Baptism ceremony with Father David.

All year groups are studying Baptism as part of their Come and See RE topics and watching and taking part in a ceremony helped to bring the Sacrament to life for the children.n.

Retreat Afternoon - Signs and Symbols

On Monday October 5th, Gabie planned a retreat afternoon in our class to introduce the topic of Signs and Symbols.

The children played a matching pairs game and talked about the signs and symbols they see around them every day and what they mean.

Gabie then began introducing some of the symbols used in the Church like Holy Water, candles, different oils, the Cross and the colour white.

The children thought about words associated with these signs.

During this topic, we will think more deeply about the Sacrament of Baptism and the signs and symbols involved in this celebration.  Father David will help us with this by re-enacting a Baptism in Church.
