During the spring term we have been using Microsoft Excel to create spread sheets. We collected some class data on height. Next, we entered the data into a spread sheet and then created formula for the cells, which enabled us to create graphs.
Last half term, we had lots of fun making a film trailer using iMovie with the alien masks that we created for homework. This half term, we are using a program called Scratch to create algorithms. We hope to be able to invent and program a game which sends a rocket into space!
Our Y4 Work
Autumn Year 4 Pro-Bots
The Year 4 children have been using Logo programming, as well as learning robotic control, by using Pro-Bots. Pro-Bots are turtle robots, cleverly disguised as racing cars. Pro-Bot can hold a felt-tip pen in its built-in mechanism, allowing it to draw as it moves, much like the Logo turtle on the screen. The children were challenged with developing a program to draw a square, rectangle, and triangle and then consider how to construct a repeating pattern around a point for the Pro-Bot to follow, using a set of arrow and number keys mounted on the back. They had to consider directional language, lengths in centimetres and the angles that were required for the Pro-Bot to turn. The children also edited their programs when they made errors and retested them.
Our Year 3 Work...
Maths & Coding
We worked in groups, discussing different scenarios that could arise while using the computer and shared ideas about how to deal with them.
