Y5  English

This term a lot of our writing has been focused around our World War One topic.  Below are some examples of letters we wrote from the perspective of an injured soldier.  We took inspiration from the book ‘Where the Poppies Now Grow’ by Hilary Robinson and Martin Impey.

Our Year 4 Work

Book Week March 2018

Can you guess which characters we are?

Our Y3 Work

World book Day – March 2017

As part of the World Book Day celebrations, our school were really lucky to have a visit from the author and illustrator M P Robertson who has written a number of dragon books. We shared some of his stories and focused on dragons in our literacy work for the week.

Year 3 spent an hour with him learning how to draw dragons, as these few photographs show.

Take a look at some of the amazing dragons we drew with his guidance and then coloured or painted afterwards.

The week ended with everyone coming to school dressed as dragons for the day.

Enjoy the photographs showing the incredible ideas some of the children and parents had for outfits!

WELL DONE EVERYONE!

Sharing Books

As part of our World Book Week activities, we shared some of our favourite books with children in year 4.

THE ART OF PERSUASION!

In year 3 we have been creating our own leaflets advertising Hyson Green Animal Park (an imaginary park we have created).

To do this we needed to learn the art of good persuasion!

The photographs show us ‘phoning a friend’ to persuade themt o come out for the day to our imaginary animal park.

The completed leaflets are fantastic and you can enjoy reading them in the classroom.

Pigs Might Fly and Other stories

This is the classroom display of amazing books we have made. Enjoy reading the stories when you visit our classroom.

Our Year 2 Work...

Sharing Stories

Just recently, Year 2 children have been making huge improvements in their writing.

They have been trying to make their work more interesting and exciting for the reader by choosing their vocabulary very carefully.

They were so proud of their work that we invited Year 1 children to come and listen to our fantastic stories.

Katie Morag

After all our work in literacy about Pirates this term, we decided it was time for a change and so we have been reading some of the stories about Katie Morag, a little girl who lives on a Scottish island named Struay.

These books tie in with our geography topic, as the children are also thinking about what it would be like to live on an island compared with living in a city like Nottingham.

In the photos, the children are acting out and retelling the story of ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail’ in small groups.
