Year 6 Advent Term 2019
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to school and we hope you have all had a fantastic summer. We are very pleased with how well the children have settled in Year 6 and we are looking forward to working with them for this final and important year of their time at primary school.
You will find a curriculum map of the main activities for this term on the curriculum page. Our Catholic Life is central to all we do at St Mary’s and we place great emphasis on our values: Kindness, Responsibility, Respect, Commitment, Appreciation, Honesty and Resilience. Our Mission statement is linked to all our curriculum areas.
Your child should already have their new personal organiser so please take some time to familiarise yourself with their diary and feel free to use the diary for sending messages to school. It is important that you continue to listen to your child read as much as possible and encourage them to record this in their organisers. As well as reading with your child, please encourage them to practise times tables for 5 minutes each day. The national expectation is that they should already know all of the tables up to 12 times 12. It is important that if your child does not know all multiplication and division facts that they work daily on these at home so that this does not hold your child back in other areas of maths.
Homework will usually be given out on a Friday and collected in on the following Thursday. As well as this, spellings will also be given out weekly on a Monday and tested the following Monday.
P.E will take place on Thursdays with Mrs North. However, we may also do additional P.E sessions throughout the week, so please ensure your child’s P.E kit is kept in school at all times. Your child will need to remove jewellery for PE sessions.
If you have any questions or comments, or would like to help out with anything we are doing in school, then please feel free to come and speak to us.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs Caine, Mrs McDonald and Mrs Myles
