Bishop Patrick’s Themes

Bishop Patrick

Leading this mission is Bishop Patrick McKinney, who became the tenth Bishop of Nottingham in 2015. Born in Birmingham and ordained in 1978, Bishop Patrick brings decades of pastoral experience and a deep commitment to helping others encounter Christ. His vision for the diocese centres on building a Church that is joyful, outward-looking, and rooted in discipleship and service.

Bishop Patrick’s Themes

  1. Encounter
This means getting to know Jesus in a real and personal way. Bishop Patrick wants everyone – children, parents, teachers – to have special moments to talk to Jesus, especially through prayer and quiet time. It’s like making a new friend and spending time with Him!
  2. Discipleship
Once we know Jesus, He invites us to follow Him. That means trying to live like Jesus every day—being kind, helping others, and making good choices. Bishop Patrick says we are all called to be His followers, or “disciples.”
  3. Missionary Discipleship
This is about sharing Jesus’ love with others. Bishop Patrick encourages us to be joyful and brave in telling people about our faith – not just with words, but through loving actions. We can be little missionaries in our schools, homes, and communities!
