Religious Education

Religious Education

The school values a strong foundation in faith, stories, teachings, and practices. Using the Religious Education Directory (RED) scheme, lessons inspire curiosity and deepen understanding, while fostering awe and wonder. Inclusive teaching ensures all pupils thrive and make excellent progress throughout their time at school.

RE teaching comprises 10% of our weekly timetable.

Our RE lead is Mrs Susan McDonald.

Religious Education Directory (RED)
The RED follows a spiral curriculum, revisiting key themes each year to deepen understanding. The six curriculum branches are:
• Creation and Covenant
• Prophecy and Promise
• Galilee to Jerusalem
• Desert to Garden
• To the Ends of the Earth
• Dialogue and Encounter
These branches guide pupils through an evolving RE journey in Catholic schools.

World Faiths

At St Mary’s, we value and respect families of all faiths and traditions, creating an inclusive environment where every child can flourish.  We currently follow the Come and See programme to explore different faiths through scripture and dialogue.  As part of this programme this year, children will be exploring Judaism and Sikhism, enriching their understanding and appreciation of diverse beliefs. Over the coming year, we are excited to begin transitioning to Branch 6 of the RED Directory – Dialogue and Encounter – which will further deepen our engagement with different faiths and promote further respect and understanding.
